Resettlement

Dealing with Resettlement

Resettlement is defined as the relocation of a group of people, whether it be a family or an entire town, to a new settlement. Resettlement takes place after some sort of disaster has either caused people to leave their land or has destroyed their property to the point where it is uninhabitable. Natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornadoes and floods can lead to resettlement; human conflict is another major reason for resettlement.

Where Will Everyone Go?

Groups of people may be forced to resettle overnight. Most of the time, there is no warning and no time for them to make comfortable arrangements to resettle after disaster has struck. It’s during this often frantic scramble during resettlement that high quality, temporary shelters become a life saving necessity.

Our temporary relief shelters serve to provide not only physical shelter but also to alleviate the mental stress of resettlement. By giving people back a sense of home and the feeling of safety that comes with it, our shelters act to boost morale and spread hope across entire communities.
